Pirates trade C Austin Hedges for international money

Austin Hedges time in Pittsburgh has come to an end.

Multiple sources confirm that the Pirates are sending the catcher to the Texas Rangers in exchange for international bonus pool money.

Hedges is known for his defense behind the plate, considered one of the best pitch framers in baseball.

His bat on the other hand is what frustrated fans.

He was batting .180 with one home run and an OPS of .467 over 161 at bats.

Hedges signed a one-year deal with Pittsburgh worth $5 million for the 2023 season.

Pirates General Manager Ben Cherington indicated that 2021 first overall draft pick Henry Davis will start to see some time behind the plate.

Catcher Endy Rodriguez is already the everyday catcher and Hedges was getting started when Rodriguez needed a day off.
