The Pirates have officially unveiled their final plan for the “Bucco Brick” that became a point of contention with some fans earlier this season.
The bricks that were purchased before the opening of PNC Park and displayed outside the stadium, on the ground is moving to a more permanent, bronze plaque display.
60 bronze places will be placed on the façade of PNC Park along West General Robinson and Mazeroski Way. Each plaque will include around 170 messages, with each one in the original square and rectangle forms the bricks came in.
“We know how important these messages and memories are to our fans,” said Pirates President Travis Williams in a statement. “This plan accomplishes our stated goal of improving upon the permanence of the display while maintaining the essence of the original program. We believe we have developed a solution for these messages that will stand the test of time, and the passion and dedication of our fans will remain a permanent fixture at PNC Park.”
The installation is expected to be complete for Opening Day 2026, with installation beginning in January.
The Pirates say the new display will be “more durable than the original bricks.”
The bricks were replaced several times over the past 25 years due to environmental factors, weather, foot traffic and other wear and tear.
“The updated vertical design will allow for these messages to be viewed more easily in comparison to the original display,” The Pirates said in a statement. “Fans often could not find their messages due to wear and tear, foot traffic during game days, and other complications.”
