PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – After taking a college outfielder in the first round, the Pirates went back to high school in the second round selecting New Yorker Aiden Ruiz.
He’s been described as the best defensive shortstop in the Draft, high school or college. The 5’10”, 168-pound switch-hitter plays defense ‘at an elite level’ per MLB.com with great range and hands, outstanding footwork and a plus arm. Ruiz was described as a future Gold Glove-caliber player. He was ranked as the ninth best player in high school by Perfect Game.

MLB.com said Ruiz is fearless at the plate but without much power. The Queens native is committed to Vanderbilt, where Bryan Reynolds won a national championship. According to the Tennessean.com he is expected to begin his pro career and skip his commitment.
Ruiz was a part of the United States team at the WBSC U-18 World Cup.
