According to a report, Andrew McCutchen is, in fact coming back to Pittsburgh in 2024.

The Post-Gazette's Jason Mackey says McCutchen is coming back on a one-year, $5 million deal.

Pirates owner Bob Nutting said when they signed Andrew McCutchen to a one-year deal this offseason they wanted him to be a Pirate for as long as he wants.

McCutchen's 2023 was cut short by an Achilles injury.

Pirates General Manager Ben Cherington said before the end of the season they were interested in bringing McCutchen back.

"We believe that the injury he's recovering from right now should not get in the way of him being a good baseball player next year and being someone who can help us," said Cherington. "We've agreed that we'll pick that conversation up when the season is over."

McCutchen was solid at designated hitter for the Pirates last season with 19 doubles, 12 home runs, 43 RBI, .256 average, .397 on-base percentage, .776 OPS in 112 games.

This all but assures that McCutchen will get his 300th career home run as a Pittsburgh Pirate.

McCutchen has not signaled that this will or will not be his last year before retiring.

He has said as long as he feels good, he will play.

Mackey reported late last week that the Pirates were close on a deal with McCutchen.
