It looks like those patiently waiting for Paul Skenes to make his debut with the Pirates will have to wait a little longer.
The Indianapolis Indians, Triple-A affiliate of the Pirates announced that Skenes is scheduled to pitch on Sunday at home.
Skenes last pitched on Tuesday for Indy in his longest start of the season, he went 6 innings, striking out seven and giving up one walk and four hits.
Once again, Skenes didn’t give up an earned run, bringing his ERA down to 0.39 on the season.
The 21-year-old threw 75 pitches on Tuesday. 53 of those were for strikes.
Skenes has now pitched 23 inning this season.
Talk of the number one overall pick in the 2023 draft making his Major League debut have heated up as he continues to accumulate innings in the minor leagues.
The Pirates want to make sure the stretch Skenes out before he arrives in Pittsburgh.
After Sunday’s start, Pirates fans will be on Skenes watch again, with the possibility of the 21-year-old making his debut at PNC Park on May 10 against the Chicago Cubs.
