Guess who is still part of the Pittsburgh Pirates? That’s right, Gregory Polanco.
Several Pirates beat writers, including Pirates Fan Insider Jason Mackey of the Post-Gazette report that a source tells them Polanco cleared waivers and “remains a part of the active roster.
The deadline for a team to claim him was 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
There was little chance a team would claim Polanco. If another team picked him up, they’d also need to pick up his remaining $2.4 million remaining salary this year.
Despite being placed on outright waivers; Polanco was in the Pirates lineup on Monday night.
He’s went 0 for 4 last night with three strikeouts and is currently batting .197.
Polanco won’t start on Tuesday night for game two against the Arizona Diamondbacks with Ben Gamble playing in right field.
