PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Jack Suwinski made history with three home runs including a walk-off as the Pirates beat the Giants 4-3.

"When he was on deck or in the hole in the middle of the eighth inning I asked him if he ever had three homers in a game. He said no. I said today would be a great day for it," said Derek Shelton.

The Giants opened up the first inning with two runs on a Joc Pederson bases loaded single with nobody out. Mitch Keller was able to to induce a double play and strikeout Tommy La Stella to limit the damage.

"I think from the second inning on his tempo was the best I've seen out of Mitch Keller, at least in the three years I've been here. He went right after guys, trusted his stuff on the plate. He battled through the first inning only giving up the two," said Shelton.

Hoy Park would get one back for the Pirates in the bottom of the third with his first home run of the season.

Suwisnki would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth with his ninth home run of the year. Little did the Giants know he was just getting started.

Suwinski cranked his tenth homer of the season in the bottom of the sixth and gave the Pirates a 3-2 lead.

It would remain 3-2 headed to the ninth inning as David Bednar attempted to get a six-out save after getting three outs in the eighth inning.

On the second pitch of the ninth inning Thairo Estrada hit a home run over the left field wall tying the game 3-3. Bednar would strike out Brandon Crawford and Luis Gonzalez to end the inning.

Suwinski led off the bottom of the ninth inning and on the third pitch he saw he hit his third home run of the game and his eleventh of the season to walk-off the Giants 4-3.

"I was just like no way! No way that's going. That guy is hard to hit off of, I mean coming from that low under there, that's not an easy at bat," said Suwinski.

The last Pirate to hit three home runs in one game was Josh Bell back on July 1, 2019 in an 18-5 win.
