PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Jack Suwisnki's walk-off single ends the Pirates 5-game skid in a 1-0 win over the Colorado Rockies at PNC Park.
Suwinski was summoned to pinch hit for Michael A Taylor after Oneil Cruz was intentionally walked to load the bases with two outs in the bottom of the 9th inning. He was 0 for his last 12.
"We liked the matchup with him off (Nick) Mears," said manager Derek Shelton. "We had a little bit of an idea of Mears because he had been here. Just thought it was going to be a good matchup."
The Pirates offense has been struggling as of late. They have scored just 12 runs in their last 8 games. In the last three games they haven't scored a run in innings 1-8.
"We know what's going on, we know we were in a tough stretch and that we're fighting to get some runs on the board. Just on of those moments and I think everyone really shared that together. To be able to celebrate that and get that win, give us a good shot to go into tomorrow to take the series," said Jack Suwinski on the Mt. Pleasant Window & Remodeling Postgame Show.
Jared Jones continued his dominance after going 7 innings allowing just 1 hit and he struck out 10 batters. He lowered his ERA to 2.63 and has 52 strikeouts in 41 innings pitched. He lowered his WHIP to 0.78 which ranks him 4th in Major League Baseball.
"I think we are seeing the full arsenal now," said Shelton. "In the first two starts we saw fastball, slider and it was really good. There were more curveballs mixed in, there were more changeups mixed in. I think we are starting to see the full arsenal of him as a pitcher."
