PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Three are repeat and another is a newcomer Hall of Famer. Steelers voted four captains for the 2025 season on Monday.
Aaron Rodgers has won over the Steelers locker room like few others have and was named the offensive captain. He is the fifth different quarterback named a captain in the last five years (Ben Roethlisberger, Mitch Trubisky, Kenny Pickett, Russell Wilson).
“The pen was writing Aaron before I could even think of what I was going to write,” said tailback Jaylen Warren.
“I think he’s done a great job of relating to the guys, going to dinner and doing things like that,” said defensive captain TJ Watt. “That’s not to say guys before him haven’t, because they did. But I think he’s done a great job of relating to guys whether it’s offense, defense, special teams. Just being a good presence in the locker room for anybody to ask questions, just be a leadership role.”
It’s the 15th time in his career that Rodgers has been voted a captain (12 times with Green Bay and two with the Jets).
“Just very transparent,” Warren said.
“He has a lot of character too. He’s a coach and a best friend all in one. You couldn’t ask for more from a quarterback.”
Cam Heyward, regardless of anything about his contract, will serve as captain for an 11th consecutive year, only Roethlisberger (13) has been voted a captain more often than Heyward.
It’s the fifth time for Watt and fourth consecutive. It’s also the fourth consecutive season for Miles Killebrew on special teams.
