Are Steelers trying to sign Villanueva, Conner?

Fan NFL Insider John Clayton says will get a big deal

Free agency officially began a little over a week ago and two big Steelers UFAs are still unsigned.

Offensive lineman Alejandro Villanueva could be still waiting for a big pay day, but at 32-years-old Fan NFL Insider John Clayton says time is running out.

“Villanueva anticipating that he should get big dollars is waiting but if you’re any player in your 30s, you better not wait, it gets worse,” said Clayton.

While Villanueva struggled with run blocking last season, Clayton says he still has a good reputation around the league.

Clayton says Villanueva is one of the best remaining free agents on the market and the Steelers are probably trying to work out a way to bring him back but other teams could be in the mix.

Fanduel has the New York Giants, Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs as the top landing spots for “Big Al.”

Villanueva is durable. He hasn't missed a game in the past five seasons.

Running back James Conner reportedly had talks with the Jets recently, but New York just signed former San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman on a one-year deal reportedly worth up to $2 million.

With Coleman taking $2 million and Conner still on the market, it’s hard to believe he’ll get much more than that with another team.

Another question is, do the Steelers really want him back, with the possibility they have their eye on Alabama star running back Najee Harris going to Pittsburgh in the first round.
It’s likely the Steelers will go with a running back in the draft and Conner will take a one-year deal elsewhere to prove he is durable with injuries keeping him out of games in seasons past.
