LATROBE, PA (93.7 The Fan) – If you hear a clip, a portion or the whole Devin Bush media gathering on Tuesday, it probably didn’t give you an optimistic view of his attitude or the season he may have. His new position coach disagrees.

“I think he’s had a good camp,” said Steelers Senior Defensive Assistant Brian Flores. “I think he’s in good shape.
I think he does a real nice job in the meetings, he works to be prepared. He’s been in good position most of the time, like any player or coach there have been some mistakes. He’s learned from them & is getting better every day.”

It’s hard to make a case for him when you notice he didn’t have any tackles in the first preseason game against Seattle.  Flores says he’s job is bigger than just that stat.  The 14-year NFL coach claims Bush is where is he supposed to be when he’s supposed to be there.  He also noted the fourth-year linebacker was only in the game Saturday for a handful of plays.

“He’s improved on a daily basis,” Flores said. “I’m happy with where he is. We always want more, always want to make the play, make the splash play. For him, he’s making those unsung plays.
He’s in the right gap. He’s helping other guys make plays, the ones that may not hit the stat sheet that people may want.”

“He’s doing a lot of good things & I’m happy with where he is.”

Flores says he believes those splash plays will come. What Bush has to remember that in order to make those plays, you have to take care of the simple ones first.  He explained that if you take care of the little things, the big things will come. It’s about not getting out of position and putting your teammates at risk trying to be a hero.

As for the notion that he doesn’t seem all in or is resigned to his fate and just playing through this season before he goes to another team.

“He’s bought in,” Flores said. “He works hard. This is very important to him. This team is important to him. He’s a great kid who works his butt off. He’s excited for the season & excited to play Saturday.”

“I’m excited for him.”
