PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – A teammate of his for nearly four years, Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick said Cam Sutton brings another chess piece to the chess board for them. He said he’s a versatile and experienced guy and welcomed back into the Steelers locker room.

“We all have stuff that we go through,” Fitzpatrick said. “The best things about being in the locker room is you have 53 or 52 other dudes who are going to help you get through whatever it is. Cam is a great dude. We all have our flaws and our situation. We are going to embrace him with open arms, treat him like he never left.”

Fitzpatrick has been at every Organized Team Activity workout saying he’s building relationships and wanted to make sure he is there as everyone is learning. He’s known free agent signee, safety DeShon Elliott for a long time and said he’s made a lot of plays in the league. The six-year veteran adds another player with experience to the team.

What Minkah really wants to see is a return to what he called ‘Minkah-ball’. Where he can just go out and make plays. If you wonder what that looks like, he said go back and watch tape from 2022. In that season, Fitzpatrick lead the NFL with a career-high six interceptions while playing in only 15 games. The 27-year-old also batted away 11 passes with 96 total tackles and really single-handedly won them the season opener at Cincinnati.

MInkah said free agent linebacker Patrick Queen was someone they needed, a linebacker who plays with a lot of passion and energy while having a high football IQ. He believes Queen will be valuable.

He’s now trying to show the veterans new to the Steelers and the rookies how to play the way that gives them the best chance to make impact plays.

“We have a lot of talent,” Fitzpatrick said. “We have a lot of experience. We have a lot guys that can do different things. If the goal is to put the best players in the best position, I think we have the right roster.”

“As many great players as we can get on the field is going to help Minkah play Minkah-ball.”
