PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Steelers open camp at St. Vincent College in Latrobe as the players report on July 26th, and wouldn’t it be Joey Porter, Junior’s birthday again.
“It was always on my birthday or the day before and I was always used to mad about that,” Porter, Junior said Thursday. “Now I kind of celebrate it because I’m actually going to be the one in Latrobe and not him. I feel like it’s great. I used to be doing it for a long time. I was the ball boy, scrubbing the balls and watching them practice, but now I’m going to be the actual guy out there running around. I’m happy.”
After the Steelers players report and celebrate the rookie’s birthday, they get to work the next day with a 1:55p workout on Thursday, open to the public.

· August 4-the annual night practice at 7p at Latrobe Memorial Stadium
· August 5 and 6 starting at 1:55p
· August 8-10 starting at 1:55p
· August 13, 15 and 16 starting at 1:55p
· August 17 final practice open to the public starts at 10:30a
It will be the first time as a professional that linebacker Elandon Roberts has traveled away for camp. The Dolphins and Patriots hold training camps at their stadium facilities.
“Just having to travel, stay in dorm rooms, that’s going to be new to me,” Roberts said. “I’m excited about it though. To be honest at this point in my career I’m kinda glad that I’m able to experience that. Being with a team that still does that, go away, so for team comradery it’s going to be a neat experience.”
For linebacker Mark Robinson, it was the first time he was able to put on pads as a Steeler. He said he loved it out there as a rookie last year, just being with the guys and putting in a lot of time on football only. It was his first real chance to carve out his identity and he did it with a bunch of fans watching.
“I had never seen a turnout like it was in Latrobe,” Robinson said. “That’s when I knew how real Steelers nation was.”
