PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – When we asked linebacker Elandon Roberts if was playing on Sunday, he asked us back if we saw him at practice. Then he said we will see him against the Packers, in so many words.
It’s good news for the Steelers defense as the linebacker corps was already without Cole Holcomb for the rest of the year. Roberts was dealing with a knee injury this week and missed practice on Thursday.
Defensive captain Cam Heyward was limited on Wednesday and didn’t practice on Thursday. Asked if he will play against the Packers.
“I would say so,” Heyward said. “If I practiced today (which he said he did), I would say I’m confident for Sunday.”
“It is what it is, had surgery eight weeks ago. Beating the odds doesn’t take away from the fact he will be dealing with some swelling. Trying to get back in the flow of things. It’s about getting ready for Sunday. As of right now I feel good.”
Chuks reports
There were multiple reports on Friday, one from DK Pittsburgh Sports and the other from the Post-Gazette as to what Chukwuma Okorafor said to get him benched last Thursday and likely sitting behind Broderick Jones again this week.
One report stated Okorafor wanted to take a knee down 10 points late against the Jags. The other is he had issues with some repetitive play-calling in the run game and he had an argument with offensive coordinator Matt Canada.
Okorafor said to reporters again on Friday he wasn’t going to elaborate on what happened, only that what he said was significant. He said he doesn’t care what someone says on Twitter about what they think he did.
He repeated he’s taking it day-by-day as far as his future. He’s not sure what is going to happen with being listed as an either/or starter at right tackle. What we can tell you is that Okorafor is still at practice, still interacting with his teammates—not being shunned at all. Mike Tomlin was joking around with he and Dan Moore on Thursday.
