PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – As a smile started on his face, Cam Heyward said the immediate reaction to having an incentive added to his contract after going through a ‘hold-in’ in training camp, he’s sleeping a lot better now.

“Glad to put that behind us,” Heyward said. “Glad to just focus on football and go out there and earn it.”

The reaction from fans on social media was immediate and much heavily critical of Heyward wanting a new contract or something added to a contract that is for $14.5 million and just signed a year ago.

“It’s a business, everyone is entitled to their opinion,” Heyward said. “Things might get out there that aren’t true or not what I’m looking for. It is what it is. I can only let my play speak for it and going forward, that’s all I’m going to do.”

Heyward reportedly got up to $3 million in incentives for getting to the playoffs and playoff wins. He said that money doesn’t motivate him any more than he was already. The 36-year-old said the goal isn’t to just win a playoff game, it’s to win the Super Bowl. The extra money is more icing on the cake, is how Heyward looks at it.

“It has to be a compromise on both sides,” Heyward said. “I understand they don’t normally do it. All I’m asking for is the opportunity to go out and earn it. That’s just what I’m going to do.”
