PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – With the first Giants snap on Monday night, defensive tackle Cam Heyward entered a classification of his own. No Steelers player ever had played in 202 games.

The Steelers defensive captain passes Hall of Famer Donnie Shell Monday after passing Mel Blount against the Jets.

"I don't take being in this locker room lightly," Heyward said. "Wearing the Steelers jersey, there is always respect there. To wear it more than 200 times and to be amongst guys like Donnie Shell and others. I'm always thankful to be a part of that. It still means I have to produce. I want to hold up my end of the deal."

"Cam is a great, great guy who does a lot in the community and he's an awesome player," Shell said recently.

Heyward is the team's career leader in tackles for loss (125), second in Steelers history with 83.5 career sacks. He has the most solo tackles (419) and passes defended (48) of any Steelers defensive lineman. Off the field he won the 2023 Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

"It's huge," said teammate and defensive co-captain TJ Watt. "You can tell my all of the gray hairs in his beard that he's been here forever."

"He's done some amazing things. He's the true epitome of a Pittsburgh Steeler on and off the field. A guy that we can look to as a role model, teammate, Pittsburgh citizen and also player. I have so much respect for Cam and he's still doing it at a very high level."
