PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Visits continue to the South Side as the Steelers bring in a defensive lineman and potential starting cornerback.

Corner Trey Amos started his career with three seasons at Louisiana, then he stepped up for a season at Alabama, where he didn’t play much, and then a standout year at Ole Miss.

The NFL Combine numbers didn’t overwhelm. His 4.43, 40-yard dash is middle of the pack and goes to one of the concerns by NFL.com in their draft evaluation, that he’s not going to win a foot race. The 6’1”, 195-pounder can also be indecisive at times, but everything else is positive. The NFL.com evaluation lays out a corner with good short-area movement in man coverage, twitchy feet, good length and body control.

They give Amos one of their highest grades as projecting to be a plus starter. He’s listed as the 42nd best overall player, which falls into the second round, where the Steelers currently don’t have a draft selection.

It all came after one big season at Mississippi, career highs in tackles (50), tackles for loss (4), interceptions (3), passes defensed (13-most at Ole Miss in 9 years). The Louisiana native was Second-Team All-American by the Sporting News and First-Team All-SEC. His best game was seven solo tackles, a pick and PBU. He also had an interception against LSU.

SMU Elijah Roberts is likely a third day, maybe late day two, defensive lineman, who could begin his career on special teams. A transfer from Miami (three seasons with little playing time), the 6’4”, 285-pound Roberts was Second-Team All-American Athletic Conference at SMU in 2023 with 12.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. Last season, Honorable Mention All-ACC with 7.5 sacks and a pair of forced fumbles while also serving as the team captain.
