PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Joey Porter, Junior said Friday his back is getting better and trending in the right direction, but listed as a limited participant all week in practice, Porter is inactive for the Steelers opening game.

Porter, Junior reported a tweaked back on the first day of training camp during conditioning tests and never practiced a down during the entire preseason. After the Steelers set their roster at 53, Porter was cleared from the Physically Unable to Perform list and did show up at practice.


During the days leading up to the first week of the season, the team did not have to report on players’ status, and didn’t. While Porter, Junior would do individual drills, we don’t know if he did any team work.

Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy has continued to use the term, ramp up, to describe Porter, Junior’s work leading up to the first game,

There is no timeline for Porter, Junior’s potential return.

Two weeks ago, Porter, Junior waffled on whether or not he would play when healthy saying he would have to talk with his agents and Steelers management as he wants a contract extension heading into the final year of his rookie deal.
