The Steelers signed free agent Mitch Trubisky recently to a two-year deal and while many speculate he will be the next starting quarterback for the Steelers, General Manager Kevin Colbert says it will be a competition.
One between Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, Dwayne Haskins and likely a fourth quarterback.
But who will that fourth QB be? Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot said on Tuesday that if the Browns cut Baker Mayfield, the Steelers would “pounce” to get him.
Another option that many insiders say is still an option is picking a QB in the draft.
In ESPN’s Mel Kiper has in his latest mock draft, the Steelers going with Liberty QB Malik Willis with the 20th pick.
Kiper says that with $5.25 million guaranteed over two-years, “this organization absolutely could draft a quarterback here. Trubisky could be a bridge to Willis, who is raw but supremely talented.”
Kiper adds that Willis could compete with the other three quarterbacks but wouldn’t be pressured to be the Week One starter.
Kiper also adds that the Saints will take Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett.
Even with the Saints Jameis Winston, Kiper can see New Orleans still taking Pickett.
“He’s the most NFL-ready of the bunch, leveling up last season with 42 touchdown passes and just seven interceptions,” said Kiper.
But after Pickett and Willis’ impressive Pro Days, It’s also very possible both QBs are gone earlier in the draft.
