PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Steelers finished their roster moves to get down to the 53 mandated by the league on Tuesday. The team traded a second former starting offensive lineman, released a veteran tight end as they got to the roster limit.
Released-DL
Four-year veteran nose tackle Breiden Fehoko was excited about the opportunity with the Steelers. Said he really felt like he fit with the team.
He played three seasons with the Chargers previously-19 games (4 starts), three of those starts last season. Also released Jonathan Marshall. Steelers instead kept defensive linemen Montravius Adams and Armon Watts (the 27-year-old played 57 games over four seasons. In the last two seasons, Watts made 21 starts with the Bears in 2022 and Minnesota in 2021.

XFL star Luq Barcoo and Chris Wilcox are out at corner. Steelers stayed with James Pierre as a top backup. The 26-year-old has played in every game over the last three seasons, starting six with a pair of interceptions.
Released-S
Steelers 2021 seventh-round pick Tre Norwood released. He started his first career game against Buffalo. Norwood played in 32 NFL games and missed most of training camp with an injury. Also released Trenton Thompson. This means special teams captain Miles Killebrew remains, not a surprise.
Staying-Nickel
The team decided to keep both Elijah Riley and Chandon Sullivan. Tomlin had called the competition between the two as tight. Riley can be an emergency safety and Sullivan and emergency corner.
Released-LB
Seven-year NFL veteran middle linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski from Bethel Park along with undrafted rookie outside linebacker David Perales and 2021 sixth-round pick outside linebacker Quincy Roche. The signing of Markus Golden and emergence of Nick Herbig filled the back-up roles.
The Steelers will go with Mark Robinson and Kwon Alexander as the back-ups at inside linebacker.
Released-OL
Inside offensive lineman Ryan McCollum was praised by Omar Khan at the start of camp with Nate Herbig serving as the main back-up interior offensive linemen with the trades of Kendrick Green and Kevin Dotson. Seventh-rounder Spencer Anderson is intriguing. He can play every position with guard likely his strongest. Steelers figured he would never clear waivers to give him time on the practice squad.
Released-TE
Along with Zach Gentry being let go, tight end Rodney Williams was released after spending last year on the practice squad. The Steelers would love to have Williams back if he clears waivers, he had a strong preseason.
Released -WR
Special teams ace Miles Boykin remains as goes Gunner Olszewski as undrafted free agent Jordan Byrd and Dez Fitzpatrick-who could also land on the practice squad were releasd.
Released-RB
Anthony McFarland will be the third running back as the team kept only three tight ends. Greg Bell and Xazavian Valladay were released on Tuesday, either could be a practice squad add.
