PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – If you are waiting for first-year Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy to give answers about those potentially in a battle to be a starter or with questionable playing status, you might be waiting until 90 minutes before kickoff when injury designations must be made.
“I understand the interests of who's going to play and who's not going to play,” McCarthy said. “But I think clearly that's something that I'm not going get into for the competition of the game. But we definitely, everybody that practices, we want to make sure they're ready to play.”
It didn’t stop reporters from asking about Joey Porter, Junior, who was the only person on the initial 2026 injury report as a limited participant with a back issue.
“He’s still working through the ramp-up stage,” McCarthy offered. “We’ll just see how he does (Thursday).”
With Mike Tomlin you knew that if a player didn’t practice on Friday, one percent chance he would play in a game. We are all trying to get a read into how McCarthy operates with injuries.
“I think that's a great point,” McCarthy said. “I think clearly, being in year one, I do have beliefs on how much a guy should practice and so forth, but we still are learning each other here, particularly in his first year.”
Aaron Rodgers still has issues with McCarthy's Pittsburghese
So don’t expect, clues. Not saying he should give them for competitive reasons, but we are always asked.
