Last week, the Pittsburgh Steelers gave cornerback Steven Nelson permission to look for a trade, but apparently that isn’t enough for him.

Nelson took to Twitter on Tuesday to make his intentions known that he just wants the team to let him go.

“Making a public announcement is a little out of my character, but you guys made your decision please don’t hold me hostage,” Nelson wrote on the social media platform.

Shortly after posting the Tweet, the Steelers announced they have released the 28-year-old. The move will save the Steelers over $7 million in cap space.

While the Steelers were maybe hoping they could have gotten something for Nelson, Ian Rapoport told the Fan Morning Show Tuesday that a deal was unlikely.

"I would be surprised if he's traded. Usually these guys are eventually released. I'm not sure if anyone is trading for anyone that makes $8 million this year. And that's just because of COVID & the way it hit the salary cap."

Nelson started for the Steelers in all 30 games he played for them in 2019 and 2020 and had 109 total tackles, three interceptions (two of those coming off Carson Wentz this past season, two fumble recoveries and two tackles for a loss.
