According to a report, the Steelers have granted permission to cornerback Steven Nelson to look for a trade.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter says Pro Football Focus ranks him as one of the NFL’s top cornerbacks over the past couple seasons.
Nelson started in 15 games in 2020 and had three takeaways (two interceptions and one fumble recovery) along with 48 tackles and nine passes defended.
PFF has him near the top 10 for cornerbacks in the league.
Nelson is too good to cut, so by trading him, they may be able to get another draft pick.
The move would create over $8 million in cap space, space they’ll need after just resigning JuJu Smith-Schuster.
This comes after the Steelers resigned Cam Sutton. Mike Hilton left for Cincinnati, a contract worth $24 million over 4 years
