PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – There is little in the game that Mike McCarthy hasn’t done, coaching is in his hometown is one of those things. According to the NFL Network, McCarthy will interview with the Steelers this week.
The 62-year-old did not coach last season after five years with the Dallas Cowboys going 49-35 and 1-3 in the playoffs. Previously McCarthy was the head coach of the Green Bay Packers for 13 years including beating the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV. He was 125-77-2 in the regular season, 10-8 in the postseason.
McCarthy has had only four losing seasons in 18 years. He is 15th on the NFL all-time wins list with 174.
A native of Greenfield, McCarthy started at Fort Hays State and then next to Pitt in 1989 under Paul Hackett, first as a graduate assistant and then the wide receivers coach.
Steelers have reportedly interviewed four candidates, none have previous head coaching experience.
