The Steelers have a deal in place to sign quarterback Russell Wilson, who was released by the Denver Broncos last week.

While the move has been praised by many, there are also those who believe signing the 35-year-old, 12-year veteran will not end well.

Speaking on ESPN Monday morning, Hall of Fame tight end and NFL analyst Shannon Sharpe said that there are warning signs

Sharpe said the fact that the Denver Broncos released the future hall of Fame QB should be concerning.

“No matter how fine a chick is, no matter how many Birkin bags or Chanel purses she has, if she’s on the market, what does that tell you,” Sharpe said, comparing a single woman to Wilson.

Stephen A.Smith said just because one team doesn’t want Wilson, doesn’t mean he’s washed up.

Sharpe said that Wilson is an upgrade to Kenny Pickett, but that doesn’t mean much.

“Bologna is an upgrade over potted meat, I don’t want either one of them though,” said Sharpe.

Others believe the Steelers are just continuing to kick the can down the road.

If Wilson doesn’t work out, they’ll have another year where they don’t know what they really have in Pickett.

Speaking to Matt Koll on The Fan recently, former Steeler Chad Brown, who was doing sports talk in Denver recently said that Wilson’s alleged personality issues are real.

“There’s no doubt about that,” said Brown who did a coaching internship in Seattle, while Wilson was there.

He says Wilson would get up to speak and “all of the defensive guys in the back of the room would roll their eyes and go ‘here we go again with this dude.’”

While in Denver, Wilson showed up with a “complete entourage” with his own quarterbacks coach, nutritionist and more.

Brown says he’s never seen anything like it around football.

“It’s a bit of a tricky relationship,” said Brown, who adds that his “diva-ness” rubs a lot of players and staff the wrong way.

But for $1.2 million and a better quarterback than you’ve had since Ben Roethlisberger left, maybe it will be worth it.

There are a few things to be concerned about Wilson on-field as well.

He was sacked 100 times in only two seasons with the Broncos, but he did have four, 4th quarter comebacks last season, the most in the NFL.
