According to reports, multiple teams have reached out to the Steelers about Mike Tomlin, after the longtime coach announced he was stepping down Tuesday.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport says that “teams have contacted Tomlin to express their interest, sources say.”
Rapoport adds that Pittsburgh “has his right and draft compensation will be necessary.”
Tomlin’s people also reportedly told interested teams that “Tomlin does not plan to coach next year.”
Tomin is under contract through the 2026 season with the Steelers and there is a team option for the 2027 season.
If Tomlin does become a head coach in the next two seasons, the Steelers control his rights and will get picks.
Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio told the PM Team a few weeks ago that there are deals on the table for Tomlin to do television, if he decides he wants to try TV for a year or two before returning to coaching.
So, it looks like the two options for Tomlin in 2026 are television, or just taking a year off.
