It seems crazy, but there are odds out there that Ben Roethlisberger could be the Dallas Cowboys next quarterback.
With Dak Prescot out with a thumb injury, the Cowboys are left with Cooper Rush as their starter, but owner Jerry Jones could be looking for more of an upgrade.
BetOnline.Ag actually has Roethlisberger listed as one of the possibilities at +5000.
To put that into perspective though, Garret Gilbert has the highest odds at +400. He’s followed by Ben DiNucci, Nick Foles, Gardner Minshew, Teddy Bridgewater, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Cam Newton, Jimmy Garoppolo, Mason Rudolph, Mike Glennon, Matt Barkely, A.J. McCarron, Colin Kaepernick and Philip Rivers has the same odds as Roethlisberger with +5000.
It tells you something when Kaepernick, who hasn’t played in the NFL since the end of the 2016 season, and Steelers third-string quarterback Rudolph are ahead of Roethlisberger in the odds.
Some think Jones should call Roethlisberger to gauge his interest in returning.
Reviewing the Steelers/Bengals game on his “Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger” podcast, the retired Steelers quarterback said watching the game, he didn’t feel like he wanted to get out there and play.
But that did change late in the game.
“I’d be lying if I didn’t say that in overtime or the fourth quarter when you have the ball, there’s probably something like, oh man I would love to have this opportunity right now,” said Roethlisberger.
The possibility that Roethlisberger would A. come out of retirement and B. join the much-hated Dallas Cowboys seems almost impossible.
But, if you want to take a chance and bet on Big Ben as the next QB in Big D, you could make a lot of money if the impossible does happen.
