PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Depth on the offensive line is the best description of the Steelers final pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Steelers selected Maryland’s Spencer Anderson with their compensatory pick in the seventh round.
Anderson has played every position in college
· Redshirt freshman played right tackle
· Sophomore-four games at left tackle and one at center
· Junior-13 games-nine at right tackle and four at center
· Senior-13 games-11 at right guard, one at left guard and one at right tackle.
The 6’5”, 309-pounder is the definition of position flexibility.
“I feel like it helps a lot. In the NFL, snaps are limited, seasons are limited when you are stuck in one position. Me adding the versatility to the team is definitely a bonus when teams usually travel seven or eight linemen. That’s always good when you can help at all five spots on the offensive line.
He’s known for being explosive off the line and at times nasty. He’s also strong, he repped 225 pounds on the bench 29 times.
“I value that flexibility,” Anderson said. “They say your best ability is availability, but behind that its versatility.”
It’s hard to make any roster as a seventh-round pick, Anderson is trying to give himself every opportunity to stick in the NFL.
