Steelers owner Art Rooney II released the following statement on Wednesday morning.
It is difficult to find the appropriate words to describe Franco Harris' impact on the Pittsburgh Steelers, his teammates, the City of Pittsburgh and Steelers Nation. From his rookie season, which included the Immaculate Reception, through the next 50 years, Franco brought joy to the people on and off the field. He never stopped giving back in so many ways. He touched so many, and was loved by so many. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Dana, his son Dok and his extended family at this difficult time.
The organization was set to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception this weekend when the Las Vegas Raiders, the team Harris scored the Immaculate Reception on comes to Acrisure Stadium on Saturday.
The team is also going to retire Harris' #32 jersey.
A dedication is planned for Friday to commemorate the exact time the play happened 50-year-old.
No word on any adjustments, if any, the Steelers will make.
