PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – With DeShon Elliott the only pure safety on the roster, NFL Network reports the Steelers signed 28-year-old Darnell Savage to a one-year contract with financial terms not immediately disclosed.

After being a starter mostly at free safety with Green Bay and Jacksonville, Savage played for three teams last year—two with the Jags-then released, eight with Washington-then released and two with the Bills.

Overall 97 career NFL games, 83 starts, 10 interceptions, three forced fumbles, 41 passes defensed, 371 tackles (275 solo) and 11 tackles for loss. His best year was in 2020 with the Packers, 75 tackles, four interceptions and 12 passes defensed.

The 5’11”, 198-pound Savage was the Packers first round pick in 2019.
