With Steelers starting quarterback Kenny Pickett out for a reported 2 – 4 weeks, the organization has signed a quarterback.
Releasing wide receiver Jacob Copeland from the practice squad, Pittsburgh has signed free agent quarterback Trace McSorley to their practice squad.
The 28-year-old out of Penn State was taken by the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
He was the third string QB behind Lamar Jackson and Robert Griffin III. He played one snap his rookie season, a quarterback draw for one yard.
McSorley played against the Steelers in the 2020 Wednesday game that was originally supposed to be played on Thanksgiving, but was moved due to high cases of COVID-19 with the Ravens. McSorley started one game last season, playing in six, with the Arizona Cardinals, a loss. He had 412 yards over those games going 45 for 83 with zero touchdowns and five interceptions.
McSorley signed a one-year deal with New England in the 2023 offseason but was released on August 28.
He signed to the Bears practice squad toward the end of October and was released on November 21.
McSorley is second on Penn State's list of all-time passing yards and touchdowns, behind Sean Clifford. While playing for the Nittany Lions, McSorley did play two games at Acrisure Stadium with a win and a loss throwing for a combined 477 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.
