Knowing how the Steelers operate, it was highly likely they would still with Kenny Pickett at quarterback at least one more year in 2024, but now it's has to be close to 100 percent.
Pickett is out a reported 2-4 weeks after ankle surgery.
The Steelers only got to see Pickett play one full game without Matt Canada.
So, unless things really turn around for Pickett and he is able to see wide open receivers and is able to better handle blitz pressure the Steelers could be looking for their next starting quarterback ahead of the 2025 season.
Hopefully Pickett doesn't turn out to be a bust. Nearly everyone is Pittsburgh is rooting for the Pitt grad. Nobody wants me to fail, but if he does, the Steelers are back at square one.
Who is to blame for that? Mike Tomlin and Art Rooney II for allowing Matt Canada to continue in 2023 as the offensive coordinator.
They gambled and lost.
Canada was never able to coach an offense that got 400 yards or more in his entire tenure.
But, they stuck with him so Pickett didn't have to start over again with a new OC.
They kicked the can down the road and now they are going to be even further into Pickett's career and not really know what they have at quarterback.
It's been 24 starts for Pickett and they still don't know what they have?
This stat may, unfortunately show what they do have, and it's not good.
