Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin says wide receiver Diontae Johnson let his emotions get the best of him during a play that saw the Bengals recover a Jaylen Warren fumble.
The play happened after Johnson missed a touchdown opportunity in the end zone toward the end of the first quarter.
“Diontae can’t let the emotions of the previous down affect his next down,” said Tomlin.
Tomlin adds that Johnson will get the chance to address the media and his teammates in the coming days. “It’s something he needs to answer for.”
Tomlin says it’s not his place to speak on Johnson’s behalf.
“I’m not going to add any additional color,” said Tomlin. “I think plays like that are best described and outlined in those involved and less so by guys like me.”
After the game, Johnson said he didn’t know it was a fumble and didn’t see the ball.
“No, I didn’t see it. I was just doing what I was doing — blocking or whatever,” said Johnson.
Sounds like Johnson may be singing a different tune, at least to his teammates this week.
