Trubisky-stop complaining & lock-in and focus

2nd year Steeler with thoughts on offense, hasn't heard about any QB change

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – If there is going to be a change at quarterback this week, Mitch Trubisky hasn't heard about it. The second-year Steeler and current back-up did have plenty to say about their recent play though.

He said one of the keys is, as a team, being consistent week-to-week, that's with everything. While you have to look at every game, know what happened in Cleveland is just one game and not a body of work. Then as you study, you have to take emotions out of it and try to look at it from a business perspective. What can we fix and get better at while sticking together.

"We didn't execute at a high level this last weekend, but getting emotional is not going to help us fix those mistakes heading into this week," Trubisky said. "Being around a long time, we know there are going to be ups-and-downs, there are going to be times when you make mistakes. We just got to stick together, do your job and everyone focus on the task at hand and that's getting better this week. That's all there is to it."

"Complaining about it is not going to do anything. We just have to lock in and focus and look how can we fix this. How can we get better?"

Trubisky said in essence that is what Mondays are for after a Sunday game. It's about getting back to the practice facility, refocusing and bringing everyone together. He said most professionals can reel it back in after 24 hours following a game and get back on track.

This team leans on veterans Cam Heyward, TJ Watt and Minkah Fitzpatrick for leadership. While on offense, it's new receiver Allen Robinson who brings a lot of those qualities. It's not just them, all the veterans have a better perspective of what is going on.

"We've been around," Trubisky said. "We know what it takes to win. We understand there are ups-and-downs in this league. You can't just get too high, can't get too low. You got to block out the outside noise and focus on what we can control and that's getting better."

They need more time together, according to Trubisky. More reps on the practice field, even if it's before or after workouts or with a small group at other times. It's about communicating with each other, honestly communicating. Having discussions about how they can get better as tailback Najee Harris said that conversation probably needs to happen this week.

"We all want to win," Trubisky said. "We are all competitive guys, but we are teammates. We are family at the end of the day. Let's focus on the solutions here-getting more reps at practice, communication and being open and honest with yourself in what I can get better at first."

Trubisky said the plays are there, but the offense as a group is not making them. They have to continue to keep pushing forward.

"It's a good thing for this offense that the run game has come along," Trubisky said. "Just like it did last year, it came along later in the season. We just got to find ways to move the ball, get everyone on the same page and execute at a high level."

That all sounds great, can they do it with each game becoming bigger than the next.
