PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Steelers brought back a linebacker with injury issues last year, added a veteran safety, signed a practice squad safety and put a safety on injured reserve to the active roster as part of a couple of moves on Monday.
Myles Jack was released by the Steelers in March after playing one season in black and gold. He would play 15 games, starting 13, but played through injuries much of the year. The 28-year-old would finish with 104 tackles, three tackles for loss and three passes defended. On August 6, Jack signed with the Eagles and two weeks later announced his retirement from the NFL. Jack is now back with the Steelers after injuries to Cole Holcomb and Kwon Alexander.
Jack said last year how much he loved playing for Mike Tomlin and knowing the system, he could get a quick week of work and be ready to play Sunday in Cincinnati.
Safety Trenton Thompson played 58 snaps on Sunday and was signed to the active roster Monday. Thompson made six tackles (five solo) against the Browns and will continue to get a lot of work as Elijah Riley (high ankle) has joined Keanu Neal (ribs) as safeties on Injured Reserve.
Steelers also signed nine-year veteran Eric Rowe. The 6’1”, 215-pound safety was an Eagles second-round pick in 2015 and has played for three NFL team. Last year he started six of 14 games against the Dolphins with 56 tackles, two forced fumbles, two passes defended and four tackles for loss. Rowe’s best two seasons were in 2019 and 2020 where he made 29 starts for Miami with 172 tackles (120 solo), 19 passes defended, three interceptions and a forced fumble.
