Two-time Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl Champion linebacker Andy Russell has died. He was 82.
Russell was drafted by the Steelers in the 16th round of the 1963 draft with pick 220.
He played one season with Pittsburgh in 1963, returning in 1966 after serving in the military
Russell was a seven-time Pro Bowler, a first team All-Pro in 1975 and a member of the Steelers All-Time Team, Hall of Honor and Pittsburgh Pro Football Hall of Fame. He was the team's MVP in 1971.
Russell was one of the few players that remained from the struggling Steelers teams of the 60s to the Super Steelers of the 70s.
Russell was born in Detroit, Michigan October 29, 1941 and played college at Missouri.
He started in 162 of 168 career regular season games with 18 interceptions for 238 yards and 1 touchdown.
In the playoffs, Russell started in 11 games with one interception and one fumble recovery.
That fumble recovery happened in 1975 against the Baltimore Colts, he returned it 93 yards for a touchdown.
Off the field, Russell was known for his charity with UPMC Children's Hospital and other local organizations.
