Penguins Re-Acquire Kapanen From Maple Leafs

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - ThePenguins are getting back Kasperi Kapanen from the Maple Leafs in a trade.

The six-player deal includes other players including the Penguins' 2020 first round draft pick (15th overall).

Toronto also gets center prospect Filip Hallander, forward Evan Rodrigues, who the pens acquired late in the season and minor league defenseman David Warsofsky.

In addition to Kapanen, the pens receive defense prospect Jesper Lindgren, who’s been playing in Sweden and journeyman forward Pontus Aberg.

"Kasperi is a good, young player that brings speed to our lineup and plays the way we want to play," said Rutherford. "Having previously drafted him, we know him as a player and feel he can improve our top-6. Aberg and Lindgren are both young players that will further add to our organizational depth."

The right winger was Penguins’ General Manager Jim Rutherford’s first draft pick when he joined Pittsburgh.

He was selected 22nd overall in the 2014 draft and is currently making $4.4 million.

Kaspaen was tread to Toronto on July 1, 2015 in the big deal that sent Phil Kessel to Pittsburgh.

The trade has not yet made official and it is unknown who the Penguins will be sending to the Maple Leafs.

In five seasons with the Leafs, Kapanen has 41 goals, 49 assists for 90 poinrs in202 games played
