Former Steelers receiver Ryan Switzer and his wife are breathing a sigh of relief after a frightening incident involving his 9-month-old son.
Over the weekend, Switzer’s son Christian woke up “in his blood” and tested positive for COVID-19.
Surgery was performed on Christian to find the source of the bleeding. Switzer said after coming out of surgery, “the GI specialist found several sites of bleeding” and that a biopsy was being done to find a possible cause.
Even after surgery, Christian still had “episodes of bleeding” on Sunday but on Monday was moved to the ICU after the bleeding stopped and his “labs remained normal.”
Then on Wednesday morning, Switzer said that Christian had finally returned home after being discharged on Tuesday night.
While the cause of the bleeding is still a mystery, Switzer says, “but, to see him sleep through the night with no bleeding and wake up in a playful mood this morning means our prayers are being answered. Thank you all.”
Switzer is currently a wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns and is close friends with Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger
