Pirates legend Ralph Kiner’s son raised eyebrows during the Mets broadcast of New York’s game against Pittsburgh earlier this week.
Scott Kiner was at Citi Field on Monday to meet his relative, Pirates infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa (who also homered that day).
Scott was talking to SNY’s Steve Gelbs about his father’s legacy when he casually mentioned he was part of the “lucky sperm club.”
“What can you tell us about Ralph as a father?” asked Gelbs
“I would say that I’m in the Lucky Sperm Club because my dad is probably one of the greatest ambassadors of baseball that’s ever lived,” Kiner told SNY, via Awful Announcing. “Growing up with him, I was a very fortunate child. I got to see things that most people don’t get to see.”
Scott is the author of “One of a Kiner”, a book about his parents, Ralph and Nancy Kiner.
Ralph Kiner played for the Pirates for eight seasons and his #4 is retired by the organization.
Kiner was a broadcaster with the Mets from their inception until his death in 2014. He was 91.
