"Our administration has been made fully aware of the incident which occurred at this recent hockey match. The Shaler Area School District stands for a commitment to the highest level of sportsmanship for athletes, coaches and spectators at all District events. We are in the midst of a thorough investigation, together with the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League, to ensure disciplinary measures are followed for those involved in this altercation. We also encourage all families and spectators to consider the responsible use of videos and images regarding minors." - Dr. Sean C. Aiken, Superintendent of Schools, Shaler Area School District
ORIGINAL STORY:
A situation unfolded in Harmarville on Thursday during a hockey game between Shaler Area and Greater Latrobe .
A video obtained by 93.7 The Fan's Colin Dunlap shows a Shaler player at the bottom of the stands inside the Alpha Ice Complex in Harmarville.
WATCH:
The player runs up the stairs after pointing at a person in the stands, takes a swing at them and then is quickly restrained by other spectators.
Someone can be heard shouting, "get off him!" as other get involved to break up the incident.
Other Shaler players entered the stands to subdue their teammate as the video ends.
No word on what prompted the attack at occurred after Shaler's 4-2 loss to Latrobe.
According to the Post-Gazette, at least two Shaler players face discipline after the incident.
"We have a discipline hearing and we're working with the school," PIHL commissioner John Mucha told the Post-Gazette. "No Latrobe players went into the stands."
In a statement, Shaler hockey said "at this time we have no comment."
Dunlap says he's been in contact with the family of the student that went into the stands, but at this time have declined to speak publicly.
