Odds are you probably remember Ed Sheeran's Game of Thrones cameo — and, who knows, maybe you were one of those who would also rather forget. If that does so happen to be you, you might be interested to know that Ed is finally reacting to the backlash over his appearance in the show.
For those who have chosen to black it out or just generally don't remember, the superstar singer-songwriter appeared in season 7 episode 1, "Dragonstone," where he played a Lannister soldier that crossed paths with Arya Stark played by Maisie Williams, and some weren’t too happy about it.

Okay, so now that were all up to speed, let’s get into it.
During a recent episode of Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast, Sheeran opened up about the guest spot for the first time, explaining that it was intended to be a surprise for Maisie, who happens to be a good friend of his.
While Ed described the experience of shooting the cameo as “great," he also admitted that “I feel like people’s reaction to it sort of muddied my joy to it.” Which actually makes us really sad.
Additionally, Sheeran revealed that part of the reason for the surprise cameo (which, as it turns out, was accidentally foiled by co-star Sophie Turner, who accidentally revealed it to Williams before they started shooting) was because Arya Stark was originally supposed to die that season.
“She’s always been awesome,” Sheeran said. “I don’t think they had written the ending yet. It was meant to be her last season but it wasn’t. And as a surprise for her, they got me on. So, she was meant to turn up on set. and I was by the fire.” Well, that’s actually really sweet.
Also speaking about the cameo to Absolute Radio, Sheeran said: “I feel like I pissed off a lot of people by being in that, but anytime I meet someone that is like, ‘oh you cameoed on that show,’ I’m like, ‘What would you say?’”
He continued, “Everyone would say yes. I was a fan of the show; they asked me to be in it. I didn’t expect there to be that much backlash but I am definitely more careful when I am offered cameos now.”
Wonder if all the haters will start to feel bad now that they they know what’s up. And NGL also totally wondering, why it took him so long to share the story behind the cameo. But, maybe now that people know, they’ll be nicer about it an he won’t be so opposed to cameo offers. Either way, as long as he’s still delivering us music, then we’re good.
