Carol Arthur, known for her roles in "Blazing Saddles" as well as other Mel Brooks films as well as Broadway shows, has passed away at the age of 85.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that she passed away on Sunday at the Mary Pickford House at the Motion Picture & Television Fund home in Woodland Hills. She had suffered from Alzheimer's disease for 11 years.

Arthur is best known for her role of Harriet Van Johnson in Brooks’ “Blazing Saddles.” She also appeared in “Silent Movie,” “Robin Hood: Men in Tights,” and “Dracula: Dead and Loving It.”

Brooks said in a statement, “She was my lifelong friend, and she will be missed.”

Brooks also tweeted about the death of Arthur, writing, “Sad to hear of Carol Arthur’s passing. She was so great in Blazing Saddles as Harriett Johnson the over-the-top, outspoken schoolmarm. She will be missed.”

Arthur made her Broadway debut in 1964 in the musical comedy "High Spirits" and then went on to star in the 1980 "The Music Man." In 1981, she joined the cast of "Woman of the Year."

Arthur was married to late comedian Dom DeLuise, who appeared in two of Brooks' films alongside of her. The two were married from 1965 until DeLuise's death in 2009.
