LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Firefighters found a person’s body after they put out a blaze at a Koreatown office building Thursday afternoon, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

Crews found the body behind debris and filing cabinets while they searched the building following knockdown, according to LAFD spokesperson Margaret Stewart. The person’s age and gender weren’t immediately known, officials said.

“Excessive storage within the office units forced a delay in conducting a full search until the fire was extinguished,” Stewart said.

The fire was initially reported at 3:18 p.m. in a sealed, four-story office building at 611 S. Catalina St.

Firefighters had to breach interior walls to reach the fire, which was located in two units on the second floor, Stewart said.

Firefighters evacuated the building and achieved knockdown in 35 minutes.

LAFD Arson and the LAPD are investigating.
