LOS ANGELES (KNX) — The shade wasn't too cool for some who purchased one of 400,000 patio umbrellas sold at Costco that are now being recalled because they can burst into flames.

The umbrellas were recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission after six incidents were reported from the product malfunction.

The commission shared that one of the incidents resulted in a person being hospitalized with a smoke inhalation issue.

"The firm has received six reports of the lithium-ion batteries overheating," the commission wrote. "This includes three reports of solar panels catching fire while charging via the AC adapter indoors and two reports of umbrellas catching fire when the solar panel puck overheated and caught fire while attached to the umbrella."

Those who have purchased the umbrellas are urged to stop using them immediately, remove the solar panel puck using a lithium-ion battery on top of it, and put it somewhere out of the sun and away from anything that could catch fire.

Costco is allowing customers to return the umbrellas and receive a full refund. Still, those unable to return the product to one of the retailer's locations can contact them for a refund.

The recall comes as most of the nation has been hit with high temperatures and will leave consumers looking elsewhere for shade.
