An Altadena pastor got a big thank you from his community on Friday for keeping his church open after losing everything in the Eaton Fire.

While Hillside Tabernacle City of Faith sustained some damage, it became a hub for World Vision's giveaways.

Kenebrew told KNX News’ Karen Adams he didn't have time to consider the loss of his own home as the community needed him.

“I thought about my church family,” he said. “I thought about the church members, and I thought about what my wife and I lost, but it was, what can I do to lift my community?

Over a year after the Eaton fire, as Altadena continues to recover, Kenebrew has kept up the church’s charitable efforts and community members are thankful.

“He and his wife both have always been like this,” one churchgoer said. “They always have been very generous, very helpful, [and] very encouraging.”

He said the church has been rebuilt, and they’re in the process of rebuilding his home.
