A donation fund was established for the family of a Manhattan Beach officer who was killed in a traffic collision on Wednesday.
Officer Chad Swanson was on his way to work when he was hit by a car on the 405 Freeway in the Carson area, according to City News Service. He died at the hospital.
“Officer Swanson was a 13-year veteran of the police department and also served as a member of the MBPD SWAT Team and Honor Guard,” the Peace Officers Research Association of California said. “His service was marked with a strong sense of duty, professionalism, and a genuine desire to make the community safer. He was not only a colleague, but also a friend to many, and his absence will be deeply felt.”
Swanson was also credited for helping people during the 2017 Las Vegas Route 91 mass shooting.
Manhattan Beach police Chief Rachel Johnson said to know Swanson “was to love him.”
“And if you weren't laughing when he was in the room, you simply weren't listening,” she said.
“He was a dedicated husband and father of three young boys, and it was clear to anyone who knew him how much he loved being a dad just outside the police department.”
Donations can be made to Swanson’s family here.
