The FBI warned police of possible Iranian drone attacks in California in February, but officials have since stated that the messaging was cautionary and there wasn’t a credible threat at this time.
The alert comes as Iran continues drone attacks in the Middle East, and U.S. officials are also watching Mexican drug cartels for possible drone threats along the border.
Experts say the warning gives police a chance to prepare for new, high-tech risks even if the threat remains unconfirmed.
Governor Newsom told reporters he’s been made aware and has been working with the State Operations Center, the Office of Emergency Services, and local law enforcement to transmit any information that they receive.
