A former LAPD officer and convicted rapist who was released from prison early was arrested again after DNA from a rape kit linked him to a 1994 case.
On Wednesday, Michael Brambles,77 was arrested in Santa Maria for robbing, kidnapping, and raping a woman outside at her Thousand Oaks gift boutique.
“I was brutally victimized by a man I didn't know in Thousand Oaks,” the victim, who went by SW, said during a news conference on Thursday. “Turns out I was not his only victim.”
Brambles was convicted of a series of rapes and 18 armed robberies committed in 1993 and 1994 while he was on medical leave from the LAPD. Despite being sentenced to 102 years in prison, Brambles was released on elderly parole in 2020 at age 71.The statute of limitations has expired on the rape case it has not for the armed kidnapping and robbery.
He is in jail with $2 million bail.
