Google has announced that it will change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America on Google Maps for U.S. users.

This change follows an executive order by President Donald Trump and will be implemented once the update is finalized in the U.S. Geographic Names Information System.
The name change will be visible only in the U.S., while the Gulf of Mexico name will remain in use in Mexico. Outside of the U.S. and Mexico, users will see both names displayed.
This decision has sparked a debate, with some environmental advocates concerned that the new name could signal intentions to further exploit the Gulf's resources.
