Inglewood's historic downtown Market Street is getting a multi-million dollar facelift.

City lawmakers hope $8.5 million in state grants will help revive the area before the 2028 Olympics. Up to $250,000 in grants for business renovations is a major component of the project.

Some shop owners and people in the area on Monday told KNX News' Karen Adams they're on board with some changes that are coming.

"All the merchants here need that upgrade, and when the new crowd comes in 2028, they want to see this the way everything else is around town, not just a small little place where they need an upgrade," one man said.

Alina Vardi, owner of Inglewood Jewelry & Loan, said she's been in the area for 30 years and that while she would love to see the area be revived, there are still some things she would like to see stay the same.

"We love the fact that there's parking in the front for our customers and they are still able to walk if they need to, but I do think they're gonna have to add some more entertainment places," she said. "Not just shopping, because if they want this to be like a prominent, it has to be a nighttime presence."

In addition to helping businesses, city officials want to install new lighting and landscaping in the area.
